Windshield wipers are a key safety item on your vehicle that you shouldn’t neglect. Over time, the rubber degrades, which reduces your wiper blades’ effectiveness. To inspect your windshield wipers, lift up the wiper blade arms and take a close look at the rubber blades. If you see cracking, fraying, and/or distortion, that is a good sign your wiper blades need to be replaced. Additionally, if you get streaking, squeaking, or just find your wiper blades ineffective, you should consider replacement.
If you need to replace your windshield wipers on your Porsche, don’t worry about taking it to the dealer. Like any normal car, this is a super easy DIY. For an overview of the replacement procedure, check out the above video from the YouTube channel, What We Drive. While the video covers the procedure for a Porsche 987 Cayman, the procedure is exactly the same on the Porsche 987 Boxster and 911 (997).
In addition, it is important that you purchase the RIGHT windshield wiper blade replacements for your Porsche. Unlike most generic windshield wiper blades, Porsche wiper blades are slightly curved to match the curvature of the windshield. Check out the recommend part below for a great deal on an exact-fit, set of Porsche wiper blades.

Step 1: Ensure you have the correct replacement windshield wipers.
- Inspect your new windshield wiper blades and ensure they are identical to your existing wiper blades.
- Pay close attention to the shape and width of the replacement blades in addition to the wiper arm adapter design.
- Remove the new windshield wipers from their packaging.
Step 2: Replace each windshield wiper blade one at a time.
- Starting with one windshield wiper blade at a time, lift the wiper blade arm up until it rests in the UP position.
- Remove the windshield wiper blade by rotating it counter clockwise (when viewing from the top).
- Disengage the windshield wiper blade by pressing the plastic tab down.
- Now slide the windshield wiper blade down and unhook it from the windshield wiper arm. Be careful not to let the bare arm snap down onto your windshield or you could crack your windshield.
- Re-install the new wiper blade in the reverse manner.
- Repeat these steps for the other front wiper blade.
Step 3: Replace the rear windshield wiper blade (if applicable to your vehicle).
- If your vehicle has a rear wiper blade, you can follow the same instructions for the front windshield wiper blades.
- However, to disengage the wiper blade, you need to squeeze two plastic tabs together, then twist off the wiper blade.
- You can watch the procedure at 0:51 in the following from YouTube channel mypcblewup.
